Claudiu Szenasi is Hungry to Help

7 days, 8 hours, 2 minutes, and 20 seconds. That is how long Claudiu Szenasi maintained a hunger strike to raise awareness for the prevention of child sex abuse.

Claudiu, a survivor of child sex abuse, is raising his voice and taking action against child sex abuse. “I’m just a man who’s had an experience and I want to raise awareness and touch other people’s lives with it. I know there are other people out there who have had the same types of experiences,” he says. “The whole idea is to try and create hope in other people’s lives who otherwise may not be able to find it.”

He embarked on the hunger strike on February 29th, 2016 and maintained the strike for over a week. He said he chose a hunger strike because it was a way to physically see changes. During his strike, Claudiu raised $1,795 through is Go Fund Me page. He then donated $1,500 to the Children’s Advocacy Center to support the Safe From the Start program.

Safe from the Start is dedicated to reducing the trauma of exposure to violence in children ages birth to five years. The Safe From the Start team works with the non-offending caregiver and children who are experiencing distress due to exposure to violence. All services are free of charge. “The way you heal is by getting it out in the open and talking about it,” he says. Which is exactly why he chose to support the Safe From the Start program.

Aside from his efforts to prevent child abuse, Claudiu practices Mixed Martial Arts and is an ILEETA certified instructor for Law Enforcement. He plans to share Mixed Martial Arts with other sexual abuse survivors to bring positivity to their lives. This is just the beginning of Claudiu’s efforts to help prevent child sex abuse.
