Police Social Worker, Karyn Nelson, shares how critical Safe From the Start is in our community.
"As the Social Worker for the Village of Streamwood Police Department for the past ten years, I have had the honor and opportunity to develop a close, professional relationship with the staff at Safe From the Start and have worked with them on many cases involving children that have been exposed to domestic violence and abuse.
I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for the people that make up Safe From the Start. They are always available to offer a helping hand with intervention and their first-class services. Both I and the investigative staff at the Streamwood Police Department enjoy our working relationship with this organization and often times have to call on their services for physical abuse, sexual abuse and domestic violence intervention. Quite frankly, I do not know what we would do if this community resource was not available as I rely upon their expertise and services to connect broken families with the support and therapy they desperately need.
I can assure you that this Police Department would be lost without the benefit of having Safe From the Start in our community to build up and strengthen the most at risk and vulnerable people in our community—the children.
$125,000 is needed immediately to preserve Safe From the Start. Please consider making a gift today to help children and families find hope, heal and grow.
