                        Run for a Reason Half Marathon

About This Event
This is the 3rd Annual Run for a Reason Half Marathon organized by The Children’s Advocacy Center and presented by Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates. A survey of last year’s runners revealed that 85% would return to run this year’s race. They rated the course as challenging and excellent for training for a full marathon.

Half Marathon Course
The Half Marathon is a USATF Certified course IL-06046-JW. The race is run in scenic Prairie Stone Business Park, in the rolling hills south of I90 and finishes with a mile run on a nature trail back in Prairie Stone Parkway. Times are given at every mile; water and sport’s drink are available at the 2,4,6,9 and 11-mile markers. Turns are well marked and marshals are posted at every intersection. Performance Race Shirt
All registered runners will receive a Technical race short sleeve shirt.

Registration and Entry Requirements
1. Go to Active.com for On-line Registration. On-line Reservations close on Thursday, June 12 at midnight.
2. Race Day registration is available at the event between 5:30 a.m. and 7:15 a.m.
3. Contact the Race Director, Susan Reedquist, at srcac@sbcglobal.net or by phone: 847-885-0100 for more information on mail-in registration.
4. If you are under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian must register for you.
5. The runner must run/walk a minimum of a 15-minute mile. The course closes at 10:15 a.m.

Fee
$40 prior to race day ($2.50 CARA Member Discount)
$45 on race day ($2.50 CARA Member Discount, have membership number available)

Packet Pick-up
Packet Pick-up with t-shirt and chips will be available on Race Day starting at 5:30 a.m. inside Sears Centre Lobby.

Race Services
1. ChampionChip Timing System.
2. Emergency Medical Technicians will be on site near the 4th and 8th mile markers and a First Aid tent will be at the Finish line. An ambulance will be on site.
3. Bottles of cold water and sport’s drink, assortment of fresh fruits, and delicious bakery goods from Deerfield’s Bakery will be available at the Finish line.

Race Results
Times will be posted 15 minutes following the first runner crossing the Finish line. Results will be posted at www.active.com and www.cararuns.org.

2007 Overall Male and Female Winners
Top Female: Angela Paprocki from Hoffman Estates, Time: 1 hr. 28 min.
Top Male: Ryan Giuliano from Schaumburg, Time: 1 hr. 11 min.

Awards
Prizes and medals will be awarded to the overall Male and Female winner. Medals will be presented to top 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place male and female finishers in each age category (66 in all). The awards ceremony will be held in the Hayter Amphitheatre (west of the Finish line) at 9:30 a.m. Signs will be posted.

Safety Requirements
No pets, strollers, baby joggers, scooters, bikes, in-line skates or wheeled vehicles will be allowed on the course.

Host Arena: Sears Centre is an 11,000 seat, multi-purpose arena featuring concerts, family shows, sporting events and the home to the Chicago Storm (MISL Soccer) and the Chicago Shamrox (NLL Lacrosse). Charitable Contributions
All proceeds from the race go to benefit The Children’s Advocacy Center serving 38 communities in North and Northwest Cook County. Since it’s founding in 1988, it has helped more than 8,000 children and their families to heal from the effects of physical and sexual child abuse.
