Two Major Gifts Received for the Safe From the Start Campaign
Since the announcement of the $125,000 campaign to preserve the Safe From the Start program, two major gifts have been received!
- Rita and John Canning, $50,000
- St. Alexius Medical and Dental Staff Association, $5,000
The staff and families of CAC are humbled at the immediate response to this funding crisis and cannot thank donors enough for their support.
"We are pleased to support the important work being done at Safe From the Start,” said Rita Canning. “This program has been a great resource in our community and I would like to see it stay in our community for years to come.”
Safe From the Start is the only local program designed to specifically address the impact of exposure to violence on very young children and their families. Children ages birth through five and their families receive individual and family therapy, crisis intervention and other services to recover from exposure to violence. All Safe From the Start services are offered at no cost to the children and families.
Due to the fiscal year 2016 Illinois budget impasse, Safe From the Start lost 39% of its funding. CAC has been able to maintain the program throughout this time by using reserve funding and launched the campaign to preserve the program through fiscal year 2018. CAC is actively looking for new funding sources to support the program into the future and seeks community support through donations. CAC extends a warm thank you to all who have already supported the campaign!
